While it is a tragedy, it is a very well done one with absolutely breathtaking moments that show the good (and the bad) people can do for each other. It is a wonderful friendship story but never in a kitschy way. I watched a documentary on the movie too and the author of the book, John Boyne, talks about how he tours schools with his books (elementary as well as highschool) and tells the children that he's happy they read the book (and now seen the film), that it's in their hands that lies the power to never again have such a war, that there are Brunos and Shmuels (the two little boys the story revolves around) still in the world but that he hopes they will build a future in which such extreme opposites don't have to exist anymore. It is a very serious subject but treated with tact and delicacy. Definitely suitable for your Liv, but I'd recommend watching it with her, not leave her alone to it. There I was sitting on the couch talking to her parents when I looked next to me and there it was. Of course, I picked it up and then looked around for a brush as it looked a bit frazzled. I swear I sat there for the next half an hour having an adult conversion with my friends while brushing the hair on a My Little Pony. They almost killed themselves laughing. Now everytime I go over there, they hand me the Pony... Did I mention I'm 30 ? Do whatever makes you happy! I came here through your post on "Just Eat Your Cupcake" btw.
